More horns!
I promised my friend Chris -- a whole year ago -- that I'd make him a crochet horned helm. I don't know why, but devil horns seemed to suit him. It arrived just in time for Halloween.

Wily Wednesdays - Crochet Devil Horns
Hi there, remember me? It's been ages since I've posted something here! As you can imagine, I've been all consumed with my mad hot romance with horticulture, which hasn't left much time for crafting and blogging. But I have a few rare free moments tonight, so let me bring out a new and silly craft to share.
I promised my friend Chris -- a whole year ago -- that I'd make him a crochet horned helm. I don't know why, but devil horns seemed to suit him. It arrived just in time for Halloween.
Of course I have to try them out.

ReplyDeleteI didn't keep track of what I was doing to make the horns. But here's the basic idea: I started at the tip, crocheting in the round, and when I got to a place that needed to tightly curve on the inside, I used a small stitch (slip stitch or single crochet), and when I got to the outside part, I used a few double crochets. While I was doing that, I gradually increased the number of stitches in the round. To make sure both horns came out the same, I worked on them both at the same time, going back and forth each time I completed a round.
DeleteKeep track of where your inside and outside curves are, and use smaller and bigger crochet stitches accordingly. In the end, to reinforce the curve, thread some string through the inside curves and pull it tight, and that will help maintain the shape.
